Norton Internet Security 2010 is the new internet security suite from the symantec. The installation of NIS 2010 was very easy and it only took about 2 minutes in a P4 machine with 1 GB RAM. The interface of NIS 2010 was simple as in the NIS 2009. The main interface has options to turn on and off the protection status of each feature like antivirus, antispyware etc.
The sacnning centre has three options for quick scan, full system scan and custom scan. It is recommended to run a quick scan and full system scan after you install the NIS first on your computer. We can also see the history of virus activity and the quarantined files in our system in NIS 2009. The live update option autimatically updates the Noton Internet Security when ever a new update is available. If you are not connected to internet you can manually run live update for updating the NIS 2010. The scan settings in Norton Internet Security 2010 includes options to controll the scanning of compressed files, MS office files, rootkits, stealth items, tracking cookies etc. We can also configure the scan exclusions and signature exclusions for additional security of known files in our system.
The network section in Norton Internet Security 2010 shows the vulnerability protection and network map. The vulnerability protection shows the vulnarabilities of our system under protection by Norton. The network security map shows the network detailes including wired and wireless networks we are connected. The network security settings allow us to configure email antivrus scan, anti spam, instant messenger scan and intrusion prevention.
The web security center have options for identity safe from protecting our passwords from phishing sites. It also has parental control for safe browsing of children (we need to install the parental and privacy controlls additionally from symantec website).
The miscellaneous settings have options to configure CPU usage display, monthly report, network proxy settings, perfomance monitoring, power saving mode etc.
